Shading clematis petals

Make layer with petal you want to work on active and close the rest by clicking the red x next to the layer on the right. Go to selections, select all, selections float

Effects, eyecandy3, bevel and set the bevel to the one you want to use, ok

Effects, noise 25, effects blur 1, or whatever looks good to you

Lighten and darken if you want to for highlights using smudge at lighten ugb and darken ugb

If you want to soften what you have done, blur again

Add a layer, use either single line or bezier and add 3 lines, blur these lines.  If they are still to prominent, reduce the layer opacity.  Shut all layers except the petal you were working on and the one you added for the lines, merge these visible.  Now you can use darken or lighten ugb if you want more highlights.  Before you blur, if you will select all, select float your blurring won't go outside the petal.

Hope I have made this understandable, and you enjoy making your clematis.
